We here at KAJITANI-EIZAN’s Patch Site: Reimagination are always on the lookout for projects to begin
and then abandon. So of course, we put on our thinking caps and pondered – what is the untranslated Tales game that speaks the most to today’s issues? This is a time of division, when people can’t see heart to heart, and need to come together to achieve our true destiny as a united peoples of Earth.
You guessed it, it’s Tales of Rebirth!
Originally released in 2004, Tales of Rebirth is the tale of Vague Lungeberg, a young man with amnesia who suddenly witnesses starlight that unlocks his hidden superpowers. When his powers go out of control, he accidentally locks his childhood friend, Clear Bennet (whose power is super regeneration), in a frigid coffin. Thus unfolds a tale of friendship, antagonism, love, hate, racism, unity, going EMO, and keeping your cool. I would tell you more but I started this project literally four days ago, so I’m not really sure what the plot is about other than that it’s the prequel to Tales of the Tempest, explaining how Caius contracted his condition.
Naturally, I have heard that there is an existing project in the works. But they have gotten nothing accomplished over the last 10 years, so I turned to a much more reliable and knowledgeable member of the Tales community who knows how to sit down and get it done all the way without sacrificing quality. Please welcome the newest member of the team, Duskbong! Of course, we also need a translator, and I happen know of one with a staggering amount of experience in translating Japanese to English – I think it’s fair to say, more than anyone alive. Please welcome our other newest member of the team, FukaiEru!
With our dream team thus assembled, as you can see, we already have incredible progress to show, unlike those other guys. These screenshots are almost perfect and basically 100% complete so I thought I would share them as they reflect our team’s unyielding commitment to quality. Above is the Item menu.
And this is the Eres menu. There are a couple spots where the binary codes don’t fit in the provided bandwidths, but that’s the hex editor’s fault, It Can’t Be Helped. No one else could do a better job, so stop whining.
Finally, battle subtitles! This needed a lot of hard work to get done but we did it. I had to insert a lot of PNGs into the ISO in Microsoft Word.
The patch download stuff is below. Menus are all done and quite a bit of the story and NPC text too.
Everyone, please thank Duskbong and FukaiEru for their deep efforts. They are sure to get this done without sacrificing quality in like, a couple weeks, tops.
Keep checking back for more great Tales fantranslation updates!
