Started way back in 2002, the project has (slowly) come a long way since its humble beginnings. Well, it’s still humble, but at least stuff is translated. If you know Japanese and would like to help translate the rest, please contact me.

I’ve been enjoying playing this through gpSP on PSP and it’s been fun, thanks for the translation/romhacking 🙂

I’ve been playing each new version of the project for the last few releases and I must say it’s amazing. I eagerly await the full translation and you have my full support. If you need any help with it, I’m here. I don’t know a lick of Japanese, but I’ll do what I can.

I really love ND2, and this patch. The small font looks fantastic.
Is this project dead, on hold until Hearts is done, or on hold indefinitely? Or just quietly progressing?
I’ve noticed that the text when Mint asks you to look for Cless is screwy for a line or two, as well as a few of Stevia’s story progression lines, a bunch of text when looking for Farah, and I think some when looking for Mendel as well…
Also, I can’t patch this version with a soft reset button combination without messing up skill descriptions… And I remember that another version would kill your save file if you soft reset during battle with that patch as well…
Is there any soft reset patch that works with this? Getting Tales costumes from training missions is pretty frustrating without it.
January 28, 2011 at 11:39 am | Permalink
It’s pretty much on hiatus due to lack of a translator. I’m too busy with Hearts and other stuff to translate it myself 😛
I’m not sure about soft reset patching… honestly I’m not too sure why it wouldn’t work, unless whatever program you’re using doesn’t check to see that it inserts code at a blank spot. And even then I would think the effect should be to mess up text, not erase your save file, haha.

It’s not very effective…
Kysafen has fainted!

I’d just like to ask when the last time this patch was updated. I’m not sure if the current version I have is up-to-date.
October 3, 2011 at 10:06 am | Permalink
Haha, I forgot about this…
I was using GBATA to do the soft reset patch. Not sure how good it is. I haven’t really tried in a while.
Wish I could help translate, since this is my favorite Tales of game…

Is this still being worked on?
December 24, 2011 at 10:00 pm | Permalink
Yes. Kaji’s even pulling himself away from spending time with his family in order to work on this on Christmas day.
December 25, 2011 at 12:24 am | Permalink
I don’t want him to do something like that. If it’s that serious, should he take a break from the translation?
October 3, 2012 at 7:52 am | Permalink
No patch update?
I wish this patch has released in this month.
Because this game has 10th anniversary.
P.S. You have mistranslated Monsters’ Den 3F instead of ” 2F.
Also mistaken of the Monsters’ Den 4F instead of ” 3F.

Hey Happy New Year
Can’t believe i found this game. For some reason, on new years day, i had this sudden memory from when i was a young child, about this very game. I remember how smooth the combat was and how disappointed i was to find out that the game was only out in Japanese.
It’s got to be a pretty special game for me to still want to play it today. Thanks for the patch.

Does anyone know why the original Eurasia dump seems to be patched?
Opening it in GBATA claims that the save type is EEPROM_V122(patched). I can’t make it save on 3DS(cia injection) at all, and can’t seem to save patch it.
January 18, 2019 at 10:10 am | Permalink
Hi! Your last patch v2.00 doesn’t work with the correct ROM (i.e. clean Japanese dump).
Please check one more time everything is correct.
January 18, 2019 at 6:01 pm | Permalink
Whoops, I forgot about the whole save type issue. I was actually basing off a ROM pre-patched to use SRAM instead of EEPROM, so xdelta will fail if you’re using an actual clean ROM. I’ve switched back to IPS for lack of a better solution on hand.
I’ve updated the release to v2.00b — please read the instructions and let me know if that works for you! I would recommend backing up your save data beforehand just in case.
Also, over 2 years late, but to Mouse above, this might help with that. tl;dr you need a footer or something, idk

I really hate to be that guy but… How far is the translation for the story?
Is it finishable as is?
April 6, 2019 at 3:03 pm | Permalink
IIRC the main story events are all done. There’s a bunch of NPC dialogue, skits, and generic per-Tales-hero dialogue that isn’t.

Thanks for all your hard work!
Here’s for the inevitable release of Tales of Rebirth!

Save game cant be load on game start menu (continue menu not showing just new games only). Play on vba emulator and retroarch gba core but detected by games latter ( after ecounter with Cless on tree palace before first elder village mission and when try to save game it showing??? already using latest english with sram patch version 2.00b with floating tools) when try change save game from automatic to SRAM 64k and 128k still not working. Please fix the problem (I have not any save problem with 1.42 version ips patch)
September 16, 2019 at 9:08 am | Permalink
Please release a fix for the patch! you can’t save. see @Majin-B00 message!
September 16, 2019 at 11:14 am | Permalink
If 1.42 works for you, don’t apply the SRAM patch; only apply the 2.00 patch. Start from your original, unpatched game. Does that work for you? If not, please explain in detail what steps you took, and I can look into it… Thanks!
September 17, 2019 at 12:05 pm | Permalink
Already try patch fresh into 1.42 and 2.00b without sram make graphical and hext issue. Load save from un patched rom / continue old version is readable but problem with fresh new save game on 2.00b cannot continue from start menu.
Patienlty will wait for fully translation and fix patch.
September 19, 2019 at 12:17 pm | Permalink
“graphical and hext issue”? Sounds like you’re doing something wrong.
1. Start with a Japanese ND2 ROM.
2. Verify that you can save.
3. Apply 1.42 patch.
4. Verify that you can save.
5. Start again with the Japanese ND2 ROM.
6. Apply only 2.00b patch. (Do not apply sram patch.)
7. Verify that you can save.
Can you tell me the result of steps 2, 4, and 7?
September 22, 2019 at 3:03 am | Permalink
Step 2 = save nd load works
Step 4 = save an load works
Step 7 = play with 2.00b patch without sram,
– “1st time new game 2.00b” then “1st time save in game” before fist mission by elderly,
– “1st tim restart”,
– in startmenu “1st time save in game” not readable/not showing continue menu/cant continue save game from “1st time new game” only show “new game”,
– “2nd time new game”,
– “1st time save game” show on save submenu ??
– try to save in game show permission to replace save from “1st time save game ?” and replace it
– “2nd time restart”
– still cant continue/cant load from “2nd time save game”/ not show “continue” menu
Strangely it can continue from previous game and fixed by replacing save game from previous 1.42 patch or unpatched rom.
So this patch is cannot be stand alone for new player save game unlike previous one (verion 1.42).

Wow, weird… I can confirm the bug. Not sure why yet, but hopefully I can figure it out and release a fix. In general, it seems that SRAM patching doesn’t actually change the autodetected save type, which is in itself a bit of an issue, but that doesn’t seem to be the main problem here.
Thank you for the detailed testing/report!

Ok, I think I have a fix…
https://puu.sh/EkdfY/b1789f4c1c.zip
Can you try this and let me know if it works for you? If so I’ll update the release to 2.00c. Thanks!
September 23, 2019 at 1:38 pm | Permalink
After patching fixed one now it can be load save game from version 2.00b. So far no any problem for save game. If any problem occured i will to inform you again. Thanks for sharing latest fix patch.

Woo, nice to know you’re still alive Kajitani-Eizan.
Thanks for all the work over the years (even if I’ll sadly never see that Hearts DS translation of yours, still check the site every couple months with fleeting hopes though of course…..).

you fixed the slowdown in the text and menus? wasn’t that part of the original game?
could you fix the awful slowdowns in lufia as well?
I mean it’s unreasonable to ask but hey

Hello, why is 1.42 still there? Is it needed?
May 26, 2021 at 1:02 pm | Permalink
Not needed, just there because it’s the last release from the old version of the project. I’ll mark it as such, thanks for bringing it up!
