FAQ

Q. Help, it doesn’t work! xdelta says something cryptic like “XD3_INVALID_INPUT”. Why your patch doesn’t work?!?!

A. Thank you for your question. I’m not totally sure what the problem is, but it just might be that your INPUT is INVALID. Make sure you have selected the .xdelta patch as the “Patch” and your clean copy of the game as the “Source File”. If it doesn’t work, chances are good that your ROM is corrupted, trimmed, or patched with something else (i.e. not clean).

Q. Why I can’t load savegame?!?!

A. Thank you for your question. I am glad to see that you have exhausted all available resources that may address your issue before giving up and wasting everyone’s time by asking stupid questions. To answer your question, you must have a Nintendo 4DS Advance, or loading of your saved games will not work.

Q. Where is Translator’s Cut patch?!?! It’s impossible to find!!1

A. Thank you for your question. Have you considered reading the post? It just might help you figure out where the patch is. Still can’t find it? Are you sure you read the post? The entire post? Try reading it again. Still can’t find it? Sorry, but you must have a Sony Playstation SP Series S, or the download link will not appear.

    @Backtrack!
Wow, you really don’t know who you’re talking to do you? Kingcom is an absolutely amazing when it comes to coding as you’ll find his name in a large handful of other fan translation works. Why are you insulting him without any knowledge or know how of how these things are done, much less making baseless claims, such as saying he doesn’t know what he is talking about.

As “…” said in the post after you, they are doing this for FREE and it is up to each and everyone of use if we want to look at his site.

You do also seem quite confused into the different types of games. Of the two you mentioned, MH3 and FFType-0, only FF is an RPG, which has a handful of text to translate. Of which it wasn’t 100% finished and was worked on by a relatively large group. It was only released in the end to (I’m guessing) spite the company after they received a C&D, which is why the patch is not available on their own site. Not speaking for Kajitani, but I believe he mainly does all the translating himself, with some help possibly from Kingcom and throughhim413 (from Absolute Zero Translation who worked on ToI, which took from the announcement of starting the translation project on July 14, 2008 to the release of the v1.0 Patch on June 29, 2010, that’s TWO years and we were all very grateful, or at least I was since I can only really speak for myself).

Back to my original point, MH games in general do not have much story to translate. Mainly just menus and item descriptions. That has very little to do with graphics. FFType-0 has a fun story, but no wear near the length of game (so less to translate), small sidequests (which Tales games have their own to translate too) and no skits (which there are a lot, by that I mean 100+ (of course I don’t know the actual number, Kajitani could answer that)). Along with all of that, Kajitani has shown us that he is trying very hard to make a proper localization. Of which I respect very much. Kajitani also (with help of Kingcom I believe, though could be mistaken) was even placing subtitles in battle, like throughhim413 did in ToI, something that you never see in US releases of the game. That is a great deal of extra effort. Oh, and don’t forget the extra encoding so that you can turn on and off subtitles during the opening video, which is also not present in any US releases of the Tales games (love that touch).

Again, as far as the translation process is concerned, it doesn’t really have much to do with “oh, it’s a 3D game, so it must be better in every way” type of mentality.

And of course again, he is doing this for free. He is not being payed. He is not asking for money. And he is doing it with his own free time. In other words, he has no obligation to release anything and was even doing a kind thing for Namco in placing his translation on hold because the release of the game because of his love for the Tales games. I think that was very gracious of him to do seeing as how some fan groups just push theirs through an official version is released. However in this case, ToHR is quite horrid of a translation (so much so that it hurts my brain, as I can understand Japanese when it’s spoken, so the translations really hurt to read, cannot read Japanese sadly or I’d play my import copy on the DS with more enthusiasm).

I do hope that Kajitani does eventually release his translation, though I don’t think any type of bickering, name calling, and other types of slander would ever make someone want to do such a thing.

whatever! your still a DUMB SHIT BAG! still hoping for this translation to be complete and hoping with kaji and his stupid friend to finish the translation,, all of you are just like a piece of shit!! ahahaha!

  3. Blackkat

Oh, you poor sad child who knows nothing but tossing insults at people he/she doesn’t know. I honestly thought you may just be ignorant, but now it’s just sad.

Anything wrong with hope? I honestly don’t know if Kaji will ever release his translation and as much as I’d like it to, it’s not like I’m betting everything on it. Mainly every once in a while I pop in here to read his amusing threads.

Anywho, have a pleasant day sad little person,

I was just browsing about Tales of Heart and i found this page on the way and look at the comments of this insult toward the one who make the patch, isn’t that rude. who do you think you are? order them to finish the patch. and compare it to some other game patch. first no one likes to be compared, second you have no idea how difficult Japanese is especially kanji. you need 2 dictionaries just to translate 1 word of how it reads and what does it mean of the kanji. 3rd don’t act like a bossy it’s up to them whether they want to finish it or not why would you bother? you’re not paying them and they don’t have any obligation to you to finish this project. You people should be gratefull that there are people who made the patch in the very first place and share it to you even though the one who got translated was just the menu

    お前たちは下らない。信じられない、ひどいコメントを読むだけでむかつく。それはあんまりじゃない?

  5. Star Violet

Read all comments, timelines, history of this pj before you comment, little boy.

  6. finalholylight

Thanks for the English script he uploaded very very long long time ago, I can now understand the storyline.
But I am tired for parallel playing and reading the script every times I plays this game -,-
4 years, and no completed translation release.
It’s better not to show this promised project to fans, unless he can complete it. But no, he can’t.

  7. Boba

Links seem to be dead? Anyone know where else the patch can be downloaded? Can’t seem to find anywhere else.

  8. Blackkat

There is no patch other than for the short demo (in which you cannot save). The full game patch was put on hold (indefinitely so far).

    – Kat

  9. ...

Why use “currently” when it IS the only one. I don’t think anyone would interested to translate this game anymore after the localization. I already lost hope and started playing this in japanese. While I can’t understand any words typed there, the character voices help quite a lot to understand the plot (well, watching subbed anime done the work). And this game has no world map, which make it easier to guess where to go next.

  10. Jeff

I just read that you’re working on a patch to give the game an english patch. If there is anything i can do to help ya out please let me know. The game is fun, but the typos and japanese dialog are driving me nuts.

  11. Machina

It’s me or I’m the only one here who find pretty horrible the music on the “REMAKE” of Tales of?.

I better prefer the RM3 versions, also, PS Vita?, lol. What a good way to waste money and a good game..

  12. Big

No, you’re not alone. I like the DS version music mostly over Vita as well for Hearts. The final boss theme sounds way more urgent and dangerous on DS than the Vita. It really feels like you’re gonna die if you don’t win ASAP.

  13. Soul

I wonder when will Kaji make a post about the miserable trainwreck that Zestiria is. I really want him to do so.

  14. Big

He isn’t going to get any fuel till the localization is revealed :^)

  15. Shirou

On hold because of official release? damn… guess it’s one of the tailes games I am not gonna play even though I want to (but on DS) I am not gonna buy Vita just for one game :/ I always hate it when you wait for something for years and then *** like this happens.

  16. Max Falls

I really hope that this guy translate this game :/ i have waited for years PLEASE Kajitani-Eizan

  17. Apple Bronx

Just heard about this game…looks pretty good. Any news about the localization?

  18. RandonXer

I honestly lost hope of this ever getting translated… too bad.. really…

  19. arfvefve

everyone just give it up. play the remake on vita.

  20. LORD

http://vesperia.livejournal.com/341177.html hope this link could help for the project someone translate the whole script

  21. Yongki T

Maybe “On Hold” must be changed into “Canceled” so no one will misunderstand about it..

  22. James W

I’m sad to see such a fantastic project go to pot over an official translation. I would love to experience this game, but alas I cannot afford to shell out $300+ for a Vita, or even $150+ for a PSTV, memory card, and 1 Tales game. The Vita really has nothing I want or need other than this, so I do hope you’ll reconsider finishing the project for DS. It would make a number of DS owners incredibly happy if you did. I’d do it myself, but I know nothing about programming. 🙁

  23. Falls

Just change tha status of the project if you are not going to do it, but if you to keep on hold on please do it, ask for help im sure everyone will you with all that they can give, everyone want this game on ds!

  24. mr potato

Please, translate this, ps vita version sucks and you know it

  25. verner

    How to use the patch

  26. Renan

i still have hope to see this game in english.
please translate this game, the Vita version is horrible and has bad location

  27. Kevyn

Yup The Vita Was Worst i also Like 2 D Tales Game then 3D

  28. keke094

i want to see this being updated

  29. Sndragon

Seriously, the longer you take this, the more likely real life kicks in and makes it impossible to complete. Even if you intend to finish it at first, life may force you to stray away from such intention and this may become a lie.

I’m sure many of us will be happy with just the interface patch, so why don’t you release it for now? Then you can take all the time you want for the rest.

  30. gamerprince1999

    PLEASE FINISH THIS!!! I don’t have a PSVita 🙁

  31. DSC

mind looking at the dates people before asking for it to be completed…. its been 1 WHOLE YEAR.. if it was being worked on… i doubt he’d have taken a year to not post anything. This thing is DEAD any chance of getting a full game patch is impossible as there already is an english localization. Gotta scrounge up some money to buy a Vita or a PS TV which plays vita games too.

  32. Billy M.T.

No word about when the On Hold will be lifted? Or is it Cancelled for good?

  33. Dev

When do you plan on finish this, SMH

  34. Dev

    @Billy

Yeah it’s cancelled, hope someone competent and mature enough picks it up

  35. hmsong

It’s so sad. We all know that this is a dropped project. I’m sure a lot of things were complete (like Menu, item name, etc). Even if all the script is not complete, I’m willing to bet that people will be happy with the menu and other “important” things translated. While I’d say you should release the incomplete patch, but obviously, you already stated that you’ll probably not release it.

    Still, I beg you.

  36. Bob McDuffin

Is there any way you can complete this or just release what you have? The DS version looks way more interesting and it’s been years 🙁

  37. Aurelious

A bit weird how some people are still asking about the translation (don’t ask me why I’m here though), to answer those questions, rather than being having the translation on hold, as of Feb 2018 the translator himself stopped translating entirely so there will be no more updates for this version including Destiny, Phantasia X, etc… which he was also working on.

  38. Anonymous

This game had two translators, Kajitani-Eizan and throughhim413. It was already unclear what they were planning to do with the game for years. On the one hand, they stopped working on its translation after the announcement of the Vita version’s localization because they didn’t want to hurt its sales. On the other hand, they didn’t actually cancel the game and merely declared that it was put on hold. Which makes me believe they were considering resuming it at some point long after the Vita version’s English release.

It is indeed true that throughhim413 abandoned all his projects in February because he now regards all fan translations of the Tales games as potentially harmful (ignoring the fact that Namco Bandai has shown no signs of interest in localizing any of the games he was working on, but that’s getting off-topic). But it’s unclear if Kajitani-Eizan shares the same sentiment.

I think he already abandoned any plans to ever finish Hearts before that, though. There have been several troll comments on this site over the last two years falsely claiming that a full patch for the game was stealth-released here. The fact that he never deleted those, yet did delete some spam comments seems to indicate that he either wrote them himself or at least approves of them. A pretty despicable way to treat those who were still hoping for a proper translation of the game.

TL;DR: Anyone still waiting for a full translation should just give up. One of the translators is a naive corporate lapdog while the other one is just a troll.

If you start a project, just finish it, or even if it is a failed project, just proclaim your failure to everyone, don’t make them still keeping hope
    What a half-ass dev
You should not become a dev, it is a shame of IT business for having a half-ass dev like you
