README ------ English Translation Patch for -------------------------------------- Tales of Hearts -------------------------------------- for the Nintendo DS * Demo Patch * By Kajitani-Eizan blade_2187@yahoo.com blade2187.110mb.com Contents -------- - Introduction - Patch History - Instructions - Notes - Credits - Disclaimer Introduction ------------ Released in December 2008, the third Tales title for the Nintendo DS is special in that it was released in two editions -- the Anime Edition and CG Edition. Unfortunately, the difference between the two editions lies solely in the FMV cutscenes. The developers didn't bother to make the menu portraits or skit portraits CG. This, plus the fact that many people think the CG character designs are ugly, leads to the Anime edition generally being considered the "real" edition. The translation project was started in June-July 2009, amidst growing doubts that the game would ever officially make it to western shores. (Please be sure to buy it if it eventually does!) You follow the journey of the ostentatiously named Xing Meteoryte, a village boy who, true to JRPG form, hasn't been allowed to leave his village for the sixteen years of his life because apparently he has some sort of secret power that he must first learn to control. This all changes when Kohaku and Hisui Hearts wash up on shore, looking to ask Xing's grandfather Zeks to protect them from the evil sorceress that is chasing them. Zeks used to be a Soma Master in the past -- a warrior who wields a Soma, a combat arms system that can also control Psi Spells to "Spir Link" with people's Spiria (so basically, a glorified psychologist). Hijinks ensue. Also, SPIRIA SPIR LINK SOMA SPIRIA SPIR Patch History ------------- Demo -- The preview demo patch, which translates up to roughly the end of Chapter 1 (Xing leaving Siebr Village). You may not load a saved game in this version, though you can save should you wish to do so. Instructions ------------ The patch is in xdelta format. Use an xdelta patcher to apply the patch to a clean, !!! JAPANESE !!! version of the ROM. For example, you can try xdeltaUI, which can be found at Romhacking.net at the following address as of this writing: http://www.romhacking.net/utils/598/ Simply run the program, make sure you're in the Apply Patch tab, select the xdelta file for "Patch", select your clean !!! JAPANESE !!! ROM for "Source File", and provide a filename for "Output File". That should do it. At the moment, only the !!! Anime Edition !!! is supported. Support for the CG Edition will likely come at a future time. Notes ----- Names Since there would predictably be much bellyaching about the characters' names, a selection option has been provided. For those not in the know, the official Japanese English spellings for the characters' names are Shing, Kohak, and Hisui. Personally, I think these are silly, and without going into the reasons why, the defaults in this project are Xing, Kohaku, and Hisui. You can change characters' names yourself once they properly join your party, but before then, you may prefer other names. If you prefer the original Japanese English (i.e. Engrish) names, hold R as you start a New Game or enter the Museum. This will activate the Rocarized default names, meaning that your characters will start out being named Shing, Kohak, and Hisui. If you would prefer a more localized flair, hold L instead for the Localized option, which will provide names that might have been used had this been an official localization project: Xing, Amber, and Jaden. FMVs Should you not want the subtitles to be present during an FMV, you may use the SELECT button to toggle the subtitles on and off.
