Just to clarify for those of you who might somehow still be confused: the previous two posts were jokes. No, Tales of Hearts is not dropped, and you can switch between the Localized and Romanized naming conventions to get Demon Fang or Majinken, whichever you prefer. A surprisingly large number of you were unable to figure out what was going on despite the obvious sarcasm, not-so-subtle hints, and my outright telling you that it’s a joke:
Between this and the readme debacle from the demo patch release, it seems that some of you should perhaps try reading a bit more carefully. Considering the purpose of this project is to provide English speakers with a version of Tales of Hearts that they can actually read, it’s a bit ironic that many visitors to the website don’t, well, read it 😛 Oh well, congratulations to those of you who noticed it, and better luck next time to those of you who didn’t!
On to other news. I guess I’ll talk about battle subtitles this time. Tales of Hearts has a LOT of voice clips being thrown around in battle. The sheer volume of subtitles flashing across the top of the screen can get somewhat ridiculous sometimes. For this reason, there are a few different settings available in the Customize menu to tailor the subtitles to your needs:
- On. Every voice clip that you can’t understand without knowing Japanese has a subtitle. Every time you cast a spell, every time you spam [insert favorite Xing arte to spam here], every time you breathe, you will see a subtitle pop up. Just kidding on that last part… maybe.
- Moderate. The more frequent of the subtitles, like clips from spamming [insert favorite Kunzite arte to spam here] or spell chants, won’t show up, so only less frequent and more important lines will vie for your attention.
- Important Only. Only dialogue specific to bosses that you might be currently facing will be shown; nothing else. This is the option to choose if you really hate having those ugly white things at the top of your screen and want to have them there as little as possible without fear of missing out on (relatively) important character dialogue.
- Off. You are a pansy if you choose this option. You may want to consider hitting up the gym so you can Soma Build your Spiria so you can graduate to a non-wuss option post-haste. I recommend squats (make sure to stick to proper form!) to build up your overall core.
Additionally, I have a request for you guys. I’m stuck. If you got past the volcano level, how did you beat that dragon boss? He keeps slaughtering my guys:
He’s weak to water so I’m playing as Innes and having her tank and spam artes. But he manages to kill off her and Kunzite pretty quickly and then before I can heal up with Kohaku he rips the poor girl apart and it’s gg. ;_;
How do I used arte? I have absolutely no idea what I could possibly be doing wrong. Please give me detailed and useful gameplay advice in your comments. Thanks!

Just felt like commenting for once :I
This game is pretty much the inspiration behind my starting to learn Japanese. Played the demo patch and it was pretty great in English, so I figured I’d learn Japanese so as to not have to hope for translation patches for stuff like this in the future. Was kind of a shallow and stupid reason, but… eh. Got me interested. So now I’m a few months and roughly 400 kanji into the language (which admittedly I barely know any of – I’m learning the writing system first with Heisig’s RTK), and plan to become fluent at some point and move to the country just to live in a foreign environment for a while. Would be willing to help at that point if I have the time, but till then I’ll just wish you good luck with the translation and life in general. Hope it works out well.
..Also, you should prolly update your banner to say “Eight Years of Tales” instead of seven. Just sayin’.

te vid request for help: use Hisui, Kunzite/Innes, and Shing. was who i had for that battle and i didn’t get that slaughtered^^” also could use items too ya know 😉
but seriously, i say Innes before Kunzite, as i use Kunzite as a replacement for Shing generally. Innes’ Neptune Rage will @#$) that boss beyond time. just my advice for line up 🙂

Somehow I don’t think that progress bar is really indicative of his progress on this… Tis a windows progress bar, so it looks like Kaji just saved a random image and uploaded it on here to either get people to shut up or amuse himself with their complaints. Or both. ‘Cause it hasn’t moved since he (I’m assuming Kaji’s a he) put it on here. And the name… “A Progress Bar” doesn’t sound indicative of anything.
I’m just wondering what the kanji next to TOPSECRET mean. (“TOP SECRET/;計画通り”) I think I recognize “plot” in it… and parts of the other two… but I’s only at a basic level of Heisigery (500 kanji), so. No idea. …Kinda sucks to be illiterate.
Google says “According to plan/on schedule.” …Soo there’s a (slight chance that there’s a) plan/schedule?
…Meh, I prolly should be studying kanji instead of reading into this so much.
